24-Hour pH-Impedance Study in Delhi
This study records acid and non-acid reflux over 24 hours while you carry on with normal activities, and correlates each episode with your symptoms. It is the test that tells whether heartburn on PPIs is uncontrolled acid, non-acid reflux, or a hypersensitive oesophagus — three problems with three different treatments.

Catheter pH-impedance
A thin catheter passed through the nose sits in the oesophagus for 24 hours, connected to a pocket recorder. You eat normally, record symptoms and sleep at home.
Wireless capsule pH (Bravo-type)
A small capsule clipped to the oesophageal lining during endoscopy records pH for 48–96 hours with no catheter; it detaches and passes naturally.

When it is needed
Reflux symptoms not responding to PPIs, atypical symptoms (cough, hoarseness, chest pain), before anti-reflux surgery, and to decide whether long-term PPIs can be stopped.
Interpretation
Acid exposure time, number of reflux events, symptom association and newer metrics (MNBI, PSPW) are analysed and explained with a clear plan.

Questions about 24-hour ph-impedance study
Do I stop my acid medicine for the test?
Usually yes, 7 days before, unless the question is why symptoms persist on treatment — Dr Paliwal will specify.
Is it uncomfortable?
A mild awareness of the catheter; most patients manage work and sleep normally.
