GERD Treatment in South Delhi

GERD is acid reflux that has become chronic — the valve between food-pipe and stomach lets acid flow upward, damaging the oesophagus over years. Dr Maneesh Paliwal confirms whether your symptoms are truly reflux (about a third of 'GERD' patients on long-term PPIs do not have it), grades the damage, and treats accordingly.

How it is treated

  • Right drug, right dose, right timing — and a step-down plan

Questions patients ask about gerd (reflux disease)

How is GERD confirmed?

By endoscopy (if there is visible damage) or a 24-hour pH-impedance study that records every reflux episode and links it to your symptoms. Many patients are labelled GERD without either test.

Can GERD cause cancer?

Long-standing untreated reflux can lead to Barrett's oesophagus, which slightly raises cancer risk. Endoscopic surveillance picks this up early; Dr Paliwal is trained in Japan in early-cancer detection with magnification and narrow-band imaging.

Do I need surgery for GERD?

Rarely. Most patients are controlled with correct medication and lifestyle changes. Surgery is considered for large hiatus hernias or proven reflux that fails medical treatment — after manometry and pH testing.

Is GERD curable?

It is controllable and, with weight loss and habit change, often becomes minimal. The structural cause (a weak valve) does not disappear, so a maintenance plan matters.
